Our Story

We are Jonah and Kristen. Husband and wife team in family and farm. We have five children. Together we run Sparrow Farms, the fruit of lots of love, prayer and a big dream.

Our family vision is to be a witness of love in the world, to live simply and give generously.  Our desire for many years has been to do this through a family business.

In 2019 we started down a path of learning about regenerative and sustainable agriculture and a spark ignited to create a farm with those principles. We had the space and wanted to use it to grow something beautiful and wholesome to share with our community. We knew we wanted a farm, but the flowers weren’t the first idea. In the midst of this initial farm dreaming Kristen came across the book The Cut Flower Garden by Erin Benzakein.  The world of local flowers opened up to us and there was no turning back.

We started our flower farm in 2020 in Ham Lake, MN. In 2023 we moved and transplanted our farm to the Hudson, Wisconsin area. We are so excited to share the beauty with this new community!

Flowers are the front door of the farm and we hope their beauty will welcome many people to this little place we are building where they will encounter the Lord in His creation.

We are honored to steward this land and produce something beautiful that will be a part of your life!

The Flowers

We grow over 50 unique varieties of specialty cut flowers and foliage including heirloom fragrant Sweet Peas, Zinnias, Marigolds, Stock, Snapdragons, Eucalyptus, Celosia, Sunflowers, Cosmos, Black Eyed Susan, Dahlias, Queen Anne’s Lace and many more.

Our flowers have been cared for from seed to harvest using entirely natural and chemical-free practices. We start nearly all of our flowers from seed and cultivate them using a no-till method of growing. This practice allows us preserve and improve our soil, which we build up with quality compost, natural fertilizer and worm compost tea made by our very own worms.

Our bouquets are handcrafted using what is at peak in the field.  Some flowers will bloom nearly all season, while others will be a sweet treasure that last only for a short window. Our arrangements reflect the beauty of each season and are always changing from week to week!

Our flowers are cut daily at the ideal stage of maturity, ensuring the most beautiful and fresh flowers with the longest possible vase life, often lasting more than a week.

“Who is a gardener? He is a person who prays to God in the beauty of flowers. He is a painter of the Lord. A musician of God. A poet of the Almighty. He is a writer of music in the colors and plants called flowers.
